Deathwish (Gbr) - At The Edge Of Damnation (1987)

Content kicks ass, cover art is great, what's not to like ? Deathwish's debut album is as old-school as it gets. The sound is calssic thrash/speed with aggresive guitars, heavy riffs, pounding drums and screams. Riffs are actually noteworthy - they are simply amazing. This album is not some mass of unrecognizable noise, it is thought-through. I can safely assume that this is one of the best thrash metal releases from United Kingdom and certainly worth listening to. You might also want to check out their second album, Demon Preacher, released in 1989, cause it's as good as this shit.

Eviction (USA) - The World Is Hours Away (1990)

You like Suicidal Tendencies? If yes, than this album is for you. Eviction's first and last LP has that punkish attitude and riffs, lyrics deal with politics, society etc. Really catchy, on the verge of crossover but still delivering a fair amount of fast, galloping thrash. For year 1990 it is really decent though the one thing it lacks is the "heavy" factor. Guitars are lightly toned, drums and bass don't stand out that much so if you're not fan of ST whom I mentioned, you probably won't return to that record after hearing it a couple of times.

Solid thrash from Spain. Vocals are great especially on such songs like Possessed, guitars are heavy with a great sound. Songs aren't that memorable but they have great riffs and choruses. It is missing that little something but overall a decent piece of thrash and still worth it. And the cover's pretty funny too.

Great come back from one of the legends of Bay Area. The whole album strongly resembles older releases and keep up to their level and the musicianship is really top-notch. Besides classic technical thrash we will have a chance to hear elements of progressive metal. Add great vocal performance to the mix and you'll end up with a candidate for best thrash metal albums of 2010.

A really diverse album and odd one if we consider the fact that this fine piece of blackened thrash came from Canada. Well I guess Canadian scene has much to offer afterall. They are notable for having only one guitar in their band which reminds me of such bands as Sodom or even Venom. I dunno, something just makes them pop up in my head while listening to it and that is to be taken as a compliment. Overall a great thrash album and noteworthy among hundreds of others underground LP's.

Vengeance Rising (USA) - Human Sacrifice (1988)

Surprisingly well done thrash with Chrisitanity-based lyrics. This theme always somehow discouraged me from listening to any bands showing it but Vengeance Rising is different. Aggressive, fast, with so many great riffs and leads, harsh vocals and the overall intensity. "Human Sacrifice" is an absolutely amazing effort and you feel like you could listen to it over and over again. A must-have.

Real fun to listen thrash with a punky attitude. Riffs are great and catchy, vocals are cool and as a whole it's a good record. Not groundbreaking but good enough to give it more than one listen. I'm pretty sure you won't be dissapointed. It's raw, rough and possesses that 80's thrash sound that we all love.
